Blackhawks tear apart Canucks in Vancouver
Nov 21, 2010 - 7:19 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Patrick Kane notched a goal and two assists, and the Chicago offense pummeled Roberto Luongo and the Vancouver Canucks in a 7-1 victory.Fernando Pisani scored twice for the Blackhawks, who dealt the Canucks their worst home loss in over two years in their first foray to Vancouver since winning Game 6 of the 2010 Western Conference Semifinals last season. Corey Crawford made 27 stops to earn the victory.
"(Vancouver) is a tough team, they're one of the best in the league this year. You don't really expect that game coming in, but the most important thing was just worrying about ourselves," Kane said. "If we compete and play hard, we're tough to play against."
Brent Seabrook, Patrick Sharp, Jonathan Toews and Troy Brouwer all contributed with a goal in the rout.
Mikael Samuelsson scored the lone goal for the Canucks, who last lost at home by six or more in a 7-1 defeat to Calgary on April 5, 2008. It was also the first loss in regulation at home this season for Vancouver, which had won its last six games at Rogers Arena.
Luongo stopped only 16-of-20 shots before giving way to Cory Schneider, who allowed three goals on 21 shots in defeat.
"Look at the goals tonight, a few were them against the goalies," said Vancouver's Daniel Sedin. "It was a tough night for them,"
Despite the abundance of goals, neither team scored in the first period. The Blackhawks finally got rolling five minutes into the second period on Toews' ninth tally of the season.
Marian Hossa fired a shot from the top of the right circle, and Toews tipped it while streaking toward the net to open the scoring. Nearly 2 1/2 minutes later, Brouwer powered his way down the left side of the ice and skated in on net, where he avoided Luongo and put the disc into the net for a 2-0 lead.
Seabrook provided a three-goal cushion with a slapshot from the center point for a power play tally at 13:48. Sharp's 12th goal made it 4-0 with 4:25 to go in the second.
Pisani scored at 4:10 and 5:55 of the third to help Chicago pour it on, and Kane's wrister found the back of the net with 8 1/2 minutes remaining in the game for a 7-0 lead.
Samuelsson finally got Vancouver a goal with a power play tally at 13:27 to avoid the shutout.
