Red Wings seek to match longest win streak of season vs. Ducks

Dec 3, 2010 - 4:11 PM (Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings hope to match their longest winning streak of the season tonight and record a third victory in as many meetings this year with the Anaheim Ducks in the process as the two clubs tangle at the Honda Center.

Detroit's 5-3 victory in San Jose on Tuesday was its third in a row, one shy of the season-best four-game run the club posted from Nov. 8-17. The Red Wings are also 8-1-1 in their last 10 overall.

Henrik Zetterberg had a pair of goals and two assists in his club's most recent victory, while Pavel Datsyuk scored and finished with two helpers. Dan Cleary and Patrick Eaves also tallied and Jimmy Howard made 25 saves.

"It's fun when it clicks," Zetterberg said. "We find each other out there and the puck goes in."

Zetterberg and Datsyuk have also done their share of damage versus the Ducks this year. Datsyuk has scored in both meetings, getting the game-winner with 11.4 seconds left in the most recent clash in Detroit on Oct. 23. Zetterberg had two goals and two assists in the 5-4 victory, Detroit's seventh in the last nine matchups in the series overall.

Datsyuk has 14 goals and 17 assists in 31 career games versus Anaheim, while Zetterberg has 15 goals and 32 points in 26 meetings.

Howard has been in net for both victories this year, improving his career record when facing the Ducks to 4-2-0 with a 2.68 goals-against average. He posted a 21-save shutout when the clubs opened the season against each other in Detroit on Oct. 8, a 4-0 decision.

The Ducks, who have won two straight and six of the last eight meetings in Anaheim, have followed up a six-game slide (0-4-2) with three straight victories, including Wednesday's 5-3 triumph over Florida.

Enforcer George Parros had his first career two-goal game, while both Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry had a goal and an assist. Jonas Hiller ended with 29 saves.

"I wanted the hat trick for sure," Parros said. "It was great feeling. Glad our line could finally contribute. We can't rely on the top two lines every night. It definitely helps to chip in."

The Ducks have won the first two contests of a four-game homestand and are 9-4-1 as the host this year.

Hiller did not start the last time these two clubs played, but stopped 39- of-43 shots faced in the Oct. 8 meeting to fall to 2-3-0 with a 3.04 GAA versus the Red Wings lifetime.
