Ducks aim for another road win in Vancouver

Dec 8, 2010 - 4:03 PM (Sports Network) - After picking up just their fifth road victory of the season last night, the Anaheim Ducks will try to deal the Vancouver Canucks another loss on their current homestand as the two clubs get together tonight at Rogers Arena.

The Ducks are just 5-7-2 as the guest club this year and had to endure a marathon shootout to record a 3-2 victory in Edmonton on Tuesday night. Rookie defenseman Cam Fowler had the game-winner in the breakaway session's 10th round as Anaheim snapped a two-game slide.

"Obviously, we have a lot of guys who can put the puck in the back of the net," Fowler said. "And it was going to be a little while for me to get my chance, but I think now that [the coaches] can use me if we get deep down the roster there."

Saku Koivu and Teemu Selanne, who had missed two straight and five of the last seven games with a groin injury, scored in regulation for the Ducks, who had been shutout in their previous two games and won for the second time in a row on the road following an 0-1-2 skid. Anaheim returns home for two games after this contest before embarking on a seven-game road trip.

Jonas Hiller allowed two goals on 36 shots for Anaheim.

Vancouver was denied a fifth straight victory on Sunday when it lost, 3-2, to visiting St. Louis to begin its homestand. Jannik Hansen and Kevin Bieksa scored for the Canucks and Roberto Luongo finished with 25 saves as Vancouver went 0-for-5 on the power play.

The Canucks, who are 8-3-1 at home this year, will be without forward Mikael Samuelsson for at least the next week due to a concussion sustained versus the Blues. Samuelsson has six goals and 17 points in 25 games this season.

However, forward Mason Raymond is expected to return tonight after missing Sunday's game with illness. A 25-goal scorer a season ago, Raymond has seven tallies and 17 points in 24 games this season.

"I feel a million times better than [Sunday], that's for sure," Raymond told Vancouver's website on Monday. "It's just a matter of getting the body healthy, getting some food back into myself and getting ready for Wednesday's game."

These clubs had split their four-game season series in each of the previous two campaigns before the Ducks drew first blood in 2010-11 with a 4-3 home win on Oct. 13. Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and three assists, while Hiller made 36 saves to improve to 6-3-1 with a 2.76 goals-against average in his career versus the Canucks.

Luongo made 28 saves and fell to 7-8-2 with a 2.86 GAA versus the Ducks.

Anaheim has won five of its last seven over Vancouver, but has lost four of its last six at Rogers Arena.
