Habs hope to rebound versus lowly Sens

Jan 21, 2011 - 3:58 PM (Sports Network) - The Montreal Canadiens will try to get back in the win column tonight, when they visit the lowly Ottawa Senators for a Northeast Division battle at Scotiabank Place.

The Habs had a two-game winning streak snapped and lost for just the second time in seven games when they dropped Tuesday's overtime decision in Buffalo. Montreal has points in three straight games and has suffered just one regulation setback in its last nine games (6-1-2).

Montreal enters tonight with 56 points, placing the Habs three points behind Boston for the division lead. The Canadiens are also seventh in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Canadiens dropped a 2-1 decision Tuesday in Buffalo when Jason Pominville notched a power-play goal at 1:09 of overtime to lift the Sabres.

David Desharnais scored for Montreal and Carey Price allowed two goals on 39 shots. Price has started in all four games against Buffalo this season and has posted a 3-0-1 record and a 1.49 goals-against average in those tests.

Canadiens forward Mike Cammalleri suffered a shoulder injury in the loss to Buffalo and was placed on injured reserve on Thursday. Cammalleri, who is second on the team with 31 points this year, is expected to miss at least two weeks of action.

Montreal is hoping to have forward Benoit Pouliot back on the ice tonight after he missed the last two games with flu-like symptoms. Defenseman Hal Gill is also questionable for tonight with an undisclosed injury.

The Habs are just 10-11-1 as the visiting team this year and have dropped four of their last six road games.

Ottawa, meanwhile, has lost four straight games and has just one win in its 11 outings, posting a 1-7-3 record during that stretch. The Senators, who are 13th in the East and 13 points out of a potential playoff spot, were dealt a blowout loss Thursday night in Philadelphia.

The Flyers dealt Ottawa a 6-2 loss at the Wells Fargo Center as Philadelphia scored three times in the third period.

Milan Michalek and Nick Foligno found the net for the Senators and Brian Elliott was shelled for all six goals on just 22 shots. Elliott has dropped 10 straight starts, dating back to a Dec. 26 win over Pittsburgh.

The Senators have a 9-13-3 record as the host this season and have dropped five straight at Scotiabank Place.

The Canadiens have taken three of four matchups with Ottawa this season and recorded a 3-0 win in the only meeting at Scotiabank Place on Oct. 23. The Sens still have five win in the last eight encounters overall, but Montreal has won five of its last eight in Ottawa.
