Umberger, Huselius help Columbus rally over Edmonton

Feb 6, 2011 - 6:49 AM Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - R.J. Umberger and Kristian Huselius scored their second goals 2:16 apart in the third period, lifting the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Umberger slipped the puck through the legs of Edmonton's Linus Omark and snapped a shot past Nikolai Khabibulin from the left circle, tying the game.

Huselius then kept the puck himself on a 2-on-1 rush, scoring the go-ahead goal on a wrister from the slot with four minutes remaining, and the Blue Jackets were able to hang on.

"I wanted to make sure we got a shot on net," said Huselius. "I shot high, and it went in."

In addition to his two goals, Umberger also had two assists. Steve Mason allowed three goals on 26 shots, but got the win for Columbus.

Magnus Paajarvi scored twice for the Oilers, including early in the third period to give them a 3-2 lead. Dustin Penner also scored and Khabibulin finished with 30 saves in Edmonton's fourth straight loss.

The Blue Jackets moved out of a tie for last place with idle St. Louis in the Central Division.

They were coming off a 3-0 win over division-leading Detroit on Friday, but fell behind 2-0 in this one when Paajarvi and Penner scored in the first 7:44 of the opening period.

Umberger wasn't worried about the deficit.

"We had a lot of jump on our team. You could see it in our energy level," he said. "We knew it was a must-win game and we didn't think that we deserved to be down 2-0."

He scored his first goal on a rush at 14:19, but the Blue Jackets needed more than another full period before Huselius tied it at 2-2 with a one-timer in the second.

Paajarvi slipped the puck under Mason's legs from the goaltender's left side 5:31 into the third period for Edmonton's final lead.

"We handed it back to them. We handed it right over," said Oilers head coach Tom Renney.

Game Notes

The Oilers are 0-2 on three-game road trip that ends at Nashville on Monday...The Blue Jackets have won four of their last six...Edmonton was 0- for-5 on the power play, while Columbus went 0-for-3.
