Rinne, Predators shut out Canucks

Mar 4, 2011 - 6:51 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Pekka Rinne made 29 saves to notch his fifth shutout of the season, as Nashville downed Vancouver, 3-0, at Rogers Arena.

Blake Geoffrion and Patric Hornqvist both tallied for the Predators, who won for the second time in seven games. David Legwand added an empty-netter in the win.

"It feels good to get the shutout in this building against one of the league's toughest teams," Rinne said. "I'm not going to lie, it feels good."

Roberto Luongo yielded two goals on 28 shots as the Canucks wrapped up a six- game homestand with a .500 record. They have alternated wins and losses in the last 12 games.

After almost 42 scoreless minutes, Jordin Tootoo's relentless work in the corner set up Geoffrion's second career goal and put the Predators on the board.

"We played pretty well in the first period, but we kind of broke down after that first goal," Luongo said.

Tootoo flushed the puck out from a scrum in the corner and centered a pass to Geoffrion, who tipped it in from the top of the crease.

The Predators got the insurance goal with 2:21 left, after Hornqvist poked the disc away from a Vancouver defender. He gained possession of the puck just before pushing it to his backhand for the finish past Luongo's outstretched leg.

Legwand's empty-netter with 35 ticks left sealed the win for the visitors.
