Blueshirts stop skid in win over Sens

Mar 5, 2011 - 6:32 AM Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Mats Zuccarello and Artem Anisimov scored 12 seconds apart in the second period to help the New York Rangers top Ottawa, 4-1, at Scotiabank Place.

Vinny Prospal and Derek Stepan also tallied for the Rangers, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 28-of-29 shots.

"The coaches have been hoping for this from us," said Prospal about the offensive outburst. "That's what every team wants, to not have just one line that does all the scoring."

Sergei Gonchar scored for the Senators, who have lost two of three. Craig Anderson allowed all four goals on 27 shots in defeat.

"It's the law of averages, you're going to have some good games and some bad games," said Anderson. "Going forward, we have to put this one behind us and get back on the horse."

Zuccarello provided the visitors a 2-0 advantage at 6:26 of the second period when he lifted the rebound of a Stepan chance over a sprawled Anderson, then Anisimov scored on a backhand from in close at 6:38 to put the game out of reach.

Stepan provided New York's fourth goal of the contest at 2:25 of the final period before Gonchar's power-play blast got Ottawa on the board at 4:56 of the third to spoil Lundqvist's shutout bid.

Prospal hit the net from the right side just after the midway point of the first period and New York headed to intermission ahead by a goal.

Game Notes

The Rangers have won five in a row over the Senators in Ottawa, dating back to January 10, 2009...There is one more game scheduled between the clubs this year, in Manhattan on March 24...The Senators begin a four-game road trip at New Jersey on Tuesday, and the Rangers host the Flyers on Sunday afternoon.
