Sharks continue homestand against Coyotes

Nov 12, 2011 - 4:20 PM (Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks have scored three or more goals in four straight games, winning three of those, and will continue a six-game homestand this evening versus the Phoenix Coyotes at HP Pavilion.

The Sharks are 3-0-1 on the homestand and handed Minnesota a 3-1 loss the last time out on Thursday. Patrick Marleau collected a pair of power-play goals, Torrey Mitchell scored and Antti Niemi stopped 21-of-22 shots for San Jose, which is a solid 9-4-1 on the season and 4-2-1 as the host.

"We limited their opportunities," Sharks head coach Todd McLellan said about the Wild. "We did execute some things we wanted to following our practices."

San Jose snapped Minnesota's five-game winning streak and will conclude this residency versus Detroit next Thursday. Marleau has 12 points in nine games and teammate Ryane Clowe is riding a four-game point streak.

Phoenix will commence a five-game road trip Saturday against San Jose and has won three in a row away from the desert.

The Coyotes, who are 3-1-0 as the visitor this season, have dropped two of three games since a three-game winning streak and are coming off Thursday's 3-2 loss in overtime versus the Montreal Canadiens.

Mikkel Boedker and Raffi Torres scored, while goaltender Mike Smith stopped 33-of-36 shots for the Coyotes, who have not beaten Montreal since December 9, 1998 -- a span of 13 games. The Coyotes went 1-1-1 on a three-game homestand.

"We didn't have the first period that we wanted to, we were lucky to be up," Phoenix pivot Cal O'Reilly said. "They had a real good second period and we tied it in the third, but we weren't able to get the two points. We just have to come with a 60 minute effort."

Phoenix center Martin Hanzal returned to action after missing two games because of a lower-back injury and O'Reilly notched his first point with Phoenix since being traded to the Coyotes by Nashville.

Coyotes center Daymond Langkow is listed as questionable for Saturday's game due to a death in his family. He has three goals and five assists this season.

San Jose handed the Pacific Division-rival Coyotes a 6-3 loss in the season opener back on Oct. 8 at the Shark Tank, as Joe Pavelski and Andrew Desjardins each scored two goals to lead the charge. Thomas Greiss made 26 saves for San Jose, which has won 10 of the past 11 meetings with Phoenix.

Phoenix has lost six straight at San Jose.
