Streaking Jets visit Capitals

Nov 23, 2011 - 3:55 PM (Sports Network) - The Winnipeg Jets will try to add another victory to their longest winning streak of the season when they visit the Washington Capitals tonight at Verizon Center.

The Jets have won three straight following an 0-3-2 stretch, giving the former Thrashers their longest winning streak since moving to Winnipeg for the start of this season.

All three victories on this hot streak came in Winnipeg and one of the wins was against the Capitals, who were dealt a 4-1 setback by the Jets on Thursday. The Winnipeg franchise has now won four straight against the Capitals, although Washington still has 10 wins in the last 15 encounters with its Southeast Division foes.

The Jets do enter tonight's test with 10 losses in their last 12 trips to D.C.

Winnipeg has been idle since downing the Philadelphia Flyers by a 6-4 count on Saturday afternoon. Bryan Little scored twice and Dustin Byfuglien added a goal and two assists to help the Jets hold on for the win. Winnipeg held leads of 3-0 and 5-1 over the Flyers, but then allowed Philly to cut the score to 5-4 by late in the third period.

Andrew Ladd, Jim Slater and Nik Antropov also lit the lamp for the Jets, while Ondrej Pavelec made 27 saves for the win.

"It was a good game. I thought we played really well," Jets head coach Claude Noel said. "They are a dangerous team."

The Jets, who are 3-6-3 as the visiting team this year, are beginning a three- game road trip tonight. They will also visit Carolina and Boston on the swing.

The Capitals hope to stay on the right track tonight after ending a four-game slide and winning for just the second time in eight games in Monday's win over Phoenix. Nicklas Backstrom broke a tie early in the third period and set up Brooks Laich for the game-winner, as the Caps held on to beat the visiting Coyotes, 4-3, at Verizon Center.

John Carlson and rookie Cody Eakin scored second-period goals for Washington. Tomas Vokoun made 20 saves in the win, which was the 200th career victory for head coach Bruce Boudreau.

The victory kicked off a three-game homestand for the Capitals, who are 7-1-1 as the host this year compared to a 4-6-0 record on the road. Washington will complete this residency Friday against the New York Rangers.

The Caps played without defenseman John Erskine on Monday and he is questionable for tonight's test with a shoulder injury. Fellow blueliner Mike Green has sat out five straight with a groin issue and is also questionable for tonight. Green, who missed time earlier this season with a foot injury, has three goals and three assists in just eight games.
