Bruins put 10-game win streak on the line vs. Red Wings

Nov 25, 2011 - 4:08 PM (Sports Network) - The hottest team in the NHL will aim for an 11th straight victory, as the streaking Boston Bruins host the Detroit Red Wings in today's clash between Original Six teams at TD Garden.

The Bruins have won 10 in a row for the first time since the 2008-09 season and their last 11-game winning streak came during a 13-game tear from Feb. 23-March 20, 1971.

Boston's latest victory came Friday in Buffalo, as the Bruins rallied from a pair of two-goal deficits to eventually win the game, 4-3, when Benoit Pouliot scored in the fifth round of a shootout.

Coming off back-to-back shutouts, Tim Thomas had his personal scoreless streak snapped at 145 minutes, but didn't allow a goal in the shootout as the Bruins remained unbeaten in November.

Tyler Seguin, Brad Marchand and Zdeno Chara scored for Boston, which came back from 2-0 and 3-1 to win the game. Thomas had 31 saves.

Christian Ehrhoff, Thomas Vanek and T.J. Brennan had goals for the Sabres, who have lost three of four. Brennan scored in his NHL debut and Jhonas Enroth had 36 saves.

"We knew we needed to calm down and just start to focus on what we're supposed to do on the ice," said Chara. "And that's what we did."

Wednesday's game marked the first meeting between Buffalo and the Bruins since Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller suffered a concussion against Boston on Nov. 12. Bruins forward Milan Lucic knocked Miller over outside of the crease as both players raced for a loose puck in a 6-2 Bruins win.

The Sabres were criticized for not coming to the aid of their goaltender on Nov. 12, but Buffalo center Paul Gaustad dropped the gloves with Lucic 83 seconds into this game.

The Bruins, who are 8-5-0 as the host this year, are playing the first of two straight on home ice this afternoon. Boston has won six straight at the Garden, where the Bruins will also host Winnipeg tomorrow.

The Red Wings have also been on a winning streak lately and will aim for a fourth consecutive victory today. Detroit also picked up its seventh win in nine games with Wednesday's 5-3 home win over the Calgary Flames.

Pavel Datsyuk and Ian White both registered a goal and two assists in Detroit's triumph over the Calgary. Tomas Holmstrom netted a pair of power- play goals for the Red Wings. Jimmy Howard made 19 saves in the win.

"I didn't think as a group, that we were as good as we have been, but we found a way to win the game," said Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock.

Detroit is 4-5-0 on the road this season compared to an impressive 8-2-1 mark at home. The Red Wings will open a two-game homestand Saturday against Nashville.

The Red Wings have won three straight and four of the last five meetings with the Bruins. Detroit has also claimed two of its last three games in Boston.
