Stars resume playoff push in St. Louis without Seguin

Feb 17, 2015 - 3:44 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Stars will continue their postseason quest without Tyler Seguin, as they visit the St. Louis Blues for Tuesday's battle at Scottrade Center.

Seguin was injured in Friday's home win over Florida after being the victim of a dangerous low hit from Dmitry Kulikov. The club's leading scorer had to be helped off the ice and is expected to miss 3-to-6 weeks with a knee injury. Kulikov, meanwhile, was suspended four games by the NHL for his role in the play.

Seguin leads Dallas with 29 goals and 59 points. He also is tied for third in the league in points.

The Stars enter Tuesday six points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference and for the time being they will have to get by in the postseason race without Seguin and a few of his fellow forwards. Forwards Patrick Eaves (concussion) and Ales Hemsky (lower body) also will be out of the lineup for a second straight game tonight.

Friday's 2-0 victory over the Panthers was Dallas' third straight win, but Lindy Ruff's club was handed a 4-1 loss Saturday in Colorado without Seguin. Jason Spezza scored the lone goal for the Stars, while Jhonas Enroth made 26 stops in his Dallas debut.

Enroth was acquired last week from Buffalo in exchange for goaltender Anders Lindback and a conditional third-round draft pick.

"I thought he (Enroth) played well. There was nothing he could do about the first one, and the third one was deflected. You knew this was going to be a tough game," said Stars head coach Lindy Ruff.

Enroth is expected to push struggling goaltender Kari Lehtonen for playing time down the stretch, and he could get the start again tonight.

Forward Antoine Roussel is expected to be back in the lineup for Dallas tonight after serving a two-game suspension for cross-checking Boston's Adam McQuaid on Feb. 10.

St. Louis, which sits second in the Central Division, has won its last three games and owns a stellar 15-2-1 record over the last 18 games. The Blues are currently four points behind Nashville for the division lead and four ahead of third-place Chicago.

The Blues recently swept a two-game road trip, picking up wins in Tampa Bay and Florida. After routing the Lightning, 6-3, on Thursday, Ken Hitchcock's club recorded a 2-1 shootout win Sunday against the Panthers.

Jori Lehtera scored the winner in the fifth round of the shootout to help the Blues leave Sunrise with a victory. Lehtera flew in down the right side and cut to the front before slipping a quick shot between the pads of Roberto Luongo. Jussi Jokinen then rang his attempt off the left post to end the contest.

Brian Elliott stopped 40 shots, and Jaden Schwartz scored the only goal in regulation for the Blues.

"Both goalies played really good today," said Lehtera. "There were a lot of odd-man rushes and the goalies were up for it. It was their game today."

The Blues, who boast a 21-5-2 record at Scottrade this season, are beginning a four-game homestand tonight. However, Dallas has won in each of its last three trips to the Gateway City.

The Stars are riding a six-game point streak in this series, going 4-0-2 over the past six encounters against St. Louis.
