Ducks look to leave struggles behind against Coyotes

GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) - After winning the Stanley Cup last season, the Anaheim Ducks have not gotten off to the kind of start they were hoping for.

The Ducks try to turn the corner on their early-season troubles when they face the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday.

Anaheim started to return to form in their last contest, snapping a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets as Mathieu Schneider netted the only tally in the shootout.

Schneider was appearing in his first game this season after an ankle injury kept him out of action for the first month. The 38-year-old defenseman joined Anaheim during the offseason, inking a two-year, $11.2 million contract to come over from the Detroit Red Wings after logging his second consecutive 50-point season.

The Coyotes are searching for a spark of their own as they currently sit in last place in the Western Conference, but enter Saturday's game after back-to-back wins against the St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars.

Phoenix routed the Stars, 5-0, on Friday as goaltender Mikael Tellqvist captured the fifth shootout of his career.

The Coyotes are hoping Tellqvist will step up as the No. 1 netminder, as he currently splits time between the pipes with Alex Auld. Tellqvist clearly has the better statistics of the two, posting a 3-2 record with a 2.21 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.
