Miller, Sabres ready for meeting with rival Bruins
Nov 10, 2007 - 3:13 PM Buffalo (6-8-1) at Boston (7-6-2) 7:00 pm ESTBOSTON (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Sabres are hoping to see the Boston Bruins on their schedule more often.
Ryan Miller will look to continue his success against the Northeast Division rival when the Sabres visit the Bruins on Saturday night.
Buffalo's only win this month came against Boston on Wednesday. Miller turned aside 25 shots and Clarke MacArthur notched the game-winning goal in overtime as the Sabres won, 2-1.
The Sabres also lost in overtime to the Bruins on November 1 when Marco Sturm tallied the game winner in a 4-3 triumph. Since that win, Boston has lost four straight contests - each by one goal.
It's not going to get easier for the Bruins as they face a goaltender that has given them a lot of problems in the past. Miller has posted a 9-1-3 record with a 2.62 goals-against average vs. Boston in his career.
Offensively, the Sabres are really missing the production of Chris Drury and Daniel Briere. Buffalo was shutout for the second time in three games on Friday, suffering a 3-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Sabres are hoping to get more offensive production from Tomas Vanek, who has four goals and six assists this season. The 23-year-old Vanek is coming off a career year, tallying 43 goals and 84 points in 2006-07.
On the other side of the rink, Boston has been led by Marc Savard, who leads the club with 11 assists and 14 points on the campaign.
The Bruins' main concern is in the crease. Tim Thomas has cooled off slightly after a great start and Manny Fernandez has been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.
With 20-year-old Tuukka Rask as his backup, Thomas will need to be even better. He is 5-4-2 with a 1.71 GAA and .947 save percentage.
