Flames complete brutal stretch of games vs. Red Wings

DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Calgary Flames are not fond of playing at Joe Louis Arena, but this visit means the end of a grueling stretch.

The Flames wrap up a three-game road trip on Tuesday when they meet the Detroit Red Wings.

Calgary has lost its lost three games in Detroit and has not won at Joe Louis Arena since December 1, 2005. In all, the Flames are just 2-8 in their last 10 visits to Detroit.

However, more daunting is the stretch that Calgary is completing as this contest will be the final one of a seven games played over an 11-day span, including five on the road. The Flames have played well, splitting the first six games.

Calgary looked fatigued in its third game in four days in Sunday's 3-0 loss at St. Louis. The game did mark the debut of rookie goaltender Curtis McElhinney, who allowed two goals on 17 shots.

Even though Detroit stands atop the Central Division with a Western Conference-leading 32 points, the Red Wings are just 2-4-1 following a franchise record-tying nine-game win streak. On Saturday, the Red Wings endured a 3-2 shootout loss to Columbus.
