Luongo hopes to continue shutout streak

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) -- Roberto Luongo is refusing to allow a goal lately.

The 28-year-old netminder will go for his fourth consecutive shutout when the Vancouver Canucks and the Minnesota Wild battle for the top spot in the Northwest Division on Sunday.

Luongo made 26 saves to post his career-high third straight shutout as the Canucks posted a 2-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.

Luongo extended his streak of not allowing a tally to 193 minutes, 56 seconds, eclipsing the franchise mark of 184:20 set by Ken Lockett from March 29-April 4, 1975. He has not allowed a goal since 4:26 of the third period of a 3-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues on November 23.

The two-time All-Star has four blankings this season and 35 in his career.

The NHL's all-time record for a scorless streak is 461:29 set by Alec Connell, who posted six straight shutouts in 1927-28, while the modern-day mark of 332:01 was accomplished by Brian Boucher in 2003-04, when he notched five consecutive blankings.

The Wild, who are tied with the Canucks atop the division standings, are also looking for their third consecutive win.

Marian Gaborik scored his fifth goal in five games, tallying the overtime game-winner in a 3-2 triumph over the Blues. Gaborik, who missed six games with an injured groin earlier this season, has a team-leading 10 goals and 20 points.
