Brodeur, Devils set to battle rival Penguins

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Even without Sidney Crosby, the Pittsburgh Penguins have managed to remain in the Atlantic Division race.

The Penguins try to move atop the division Monday night when they visit Martin Brodeur and the rival New Jersey Devils.

Pittsburgh is in second place in the division, one point behind the Philadelphia Flyers.

Compared to his success against the rest of the NHL, Brodeur has not been his usual self against Pittsburgh in his career. The three-time Vezina Trophy winner has posted a 32-21-4 record with a 2.72 goals-against average and five shutouts against the division rival.

The Devils will bring a little momentum into this contest after snapping a three-game losing streak with a 6-3 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

Pittsburgh also is coming off an impressive performance, scoring four goals in the final third en route to Saturday's 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Evgeni Malkin, who scored a goal and set up two others Saturday, has five goals and four assists in the six games Crosby has missed.

Penguins goaltender Ty Conklin is 12-3-1 since December 20.
