Flyers look for fifth straight win

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) - Left for dead less than two weeks ago, the Philadelphia Flyers have picked themselves up off the mat.

The Flyers will be looking for their fifth consecutive win Friday when they visit the New Jersey Devils.

On the verge of falling from the playoff ranks after a 7-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 16, the Flyers are currently tied for the eighth and final spot with the Boston Bruins (39-28-10).

Both clubs are two points ahead of the upstart Washington Capitals (39-31-8).

Daniel Briere has been sharp during the Flyers' surge, posting four goals in the past three contests. He scored the first goal in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime win over the New York Rangers. Mike Richards tallied the game-winner 2:16 into the extra session.

The struggling Devils need a win Friday to avoid the franchise's first six-game losing streak since November 2000.

Offense has been the big problem for New Jersey, which has totaled just five goals during the skid.

The Devils lost, 3-2, to the Rangers on Thursday as Martin Brodeur allowed a pair of goals in the third period.

The Flyers won the first meeting of the season between the clubs before losing the next five. The teams have not met since a 7-3 Devils win on January 22.
