Getzlaf hoping to continue hot streak against Wild
Jan 17, 2009 - 11:28 AM Anaheim (22-19-5) at Minnesota (22-18-3) 9:00 p.m. ESTST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) -- Ryan Getzlaf is one of the NHL's hottest players. Nicklas Backstrom will test his current surge if he is in net on Saturday.
Getzlaf and the Anaheim Ducks continue their five-game road trip on Saturday when they visit the Minnesota Wild.
The 23-year-old center, Getzlaf scored the Ducks' only goal on a power play as they opened their trip with a 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, falling to 1-4-0 in their last five games.
Despite Anaheim's struggles, Getzlaf has recorded points in each of his last eight games, scoring three goals and nine assists over that span.
Continuing that success could be difficult against Backstrom, who has allowed only nine goals while winning five or his last six starts.
The 30-year-old goaltender, who is 21-13-2 this season with a 2.16 goals-against average and .927 save percentage, made 20 saves on Thursday, leading the Wild to a 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
Backstrom has not allowed three goals in a game in 15 starts since suffering a 6-5 setback to the Colorado Avalanche on December 1.
