Penguins seek another offensive outburst vs. hot Devils

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins began the second half by showing a glimpse of what they were supposed to be all season.

Coming off a rousing victory, the Penguins can continue picking themselves up after a shoddy first half when they visit the torrid New Jersey Devils on Friday.

Defenseman Kris Letang scored twice during a five-goal third period as the Penguins skated to a 6-2 triumph over the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

Petr Sykora also netted two goals and captain Sidney Crosby added a tally and three assists for the Penguins, who completed a 3-2-0 homestand with their fourth win in six games overall.

Pittsburgh, which begins a three-game road trip, trudged through a 24-21-4 record prior to the All-Star break - months after falling to the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Staked in the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference, the Penguins stare at the daunting task of halting the Devils' seven-game winning streak.

Captain Jamie Langenbrunner finished with two goals and an assist, including the game-winning tally in overtime, as the Devils bounced back from a third-period letdown to post a 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday.

All-Star Zach Parise and Patrik Elias also scored for New Jersey, which was supported by a 24-save performance by Scott Clemmensen.

The team has posted the longest string of victories since it won nine straight from November 17-December 7, 2007.
