Flames continue road swing after deals, visit Flyers
Mar 5, 2009 - 11:16 AM Calgary (38-19-6) at Philadelphia (34-18-10), 7:00 pm ESTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- According to most of the experts, the Calgary Flames were the biggest winners at the trade deadline. They hope to continue winning on the ice as well.
The Flames test that belief when they continue a season-long, seven-game road swing when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.
Calgary made a splash before Wednesday's deadline, acquiring center Olli Jokinen - who has recorded 21 goals and 21 assists in 57 games this season - from the Phoenix Coyotes for center Matthew Lombardi, right wing Brandon Prust and a first-round pick.
"I don't think I have been playing at the level I can play," Jokinen said. "It's going to be challenging. There are high expectations. As an athlete you want to be pushed."
The Flames, who own an eight-point edge in the Northwest Division standings, also picked up defenseman Jordan Leopold from the Colorado Avalanche at the deadline.
In Calgary's first stop on its long trip, David Moss notched a hat trick and captain Jarome Iginla added a pair of goals in a 6-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators.
The Flyers, who acquired left wing Daniel Carcillo from the Coyotes for right wing Scottie Upshall and a 2011 second-round draft pick, avoided a third straight loss with a 4-2 triumph over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday.
