N.Y. defeats Dallas to snap winless streak
Sep 18, 2011 - 3:06 AM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York snapped its eight-game winless streak with a vital 1-0 victory over FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday. The Red Bulls have not recorded a win since a resounding 5-0 defeat of Toronto FC on July 6, causing the team to slip out of a playoff spot. But Luke Rodgers returned from injury to play 45 minutes, and it proved to be crucial, as he recorded the game's only goal.
Rodgers got the winner for New York in the 36th minute with the goal coming against the run of play.
Despite dictating play for much of the match, some sloppy defending from FC Dallas saw Juan Agudelo break free on the right flank. The youngster then played a beautiful low cross to the back post to find Rodgers, who tucked home the lone goal of the game.
FC Dallas continued to apply pressure throughout the match but failed to break through, as it was held scoreless for the second consecutive match.
New York (7-6-15) has now accumulated 36 points from its 28 matches, and it is unbeaten in its last four contests after three straight ties. Dallas (13-9-7) has lost two on the bounce, keeping the club on 46 points.
The Red Bulls will return home to host Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, while FC Dallas will return to action on Sept. 24 when it hosts the Houston Dynamo.
