Whitecaps host unbeaten Revolution at Empire

Apr 5, 2011 - 10:12 PM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Vancouver Whitecaps FC forward Camilo made an immediate impact in his first Major League Soccer start, and now coach Teitur Thordarson has a good problem: Who to start Wednesday against New England?

Camilo earned his first start with designated player Eric Hassli serving a one-game suspension and fueled Vancouver's three-goal rally in an improbable 3-3 draw against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday.

The 22-year-old Brazilian set up Atiba Harris' 72nd-minute goal, then scored a pair of goals in stoppage time as Vancouver (1-1-1) downed Kansas City. He was named MLS Player of the Week on Monday.

The Whitecaps return to Empire Field on Wednesday for their second match in an eight-day stretch, hosting the unbeaten New England Revolution (1-0-2).

Hassli scored twice in Vancouver's MLS debut, a 4-2 win over Toronto FC, and a win over New England on Wednesday would give the expansion club seven out of a possible nine points through three home matches.

Although Vancouver was shutout in its lone road match, 1-0 at the Philadelphia Union, it has scored seven goals in two home matches. With Camilo, Hassli and Harris all playing well, Thordarson is in a good position.

And remember, Vancouver failed to score against Philadelphia but played a part of that match with just 10 men after Hassli was sent off for his second yellow card.

On the heels of the dramatic finish against Kansas City, Vancouver may still be riding the emotion from just days ago when New England visits.

"When we went 3-0 down, it would have been easy to give up, but we kept on going and continued to work and stayed positive as we always do. I think that paid off in the end," said Thordarson.

New England missed the postseason for the first time in a decade last year but boss Steve Nicol has the club playing well so far this season. The Revs downed D.C. United and tied the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Portland Timbers.

But coming off two straight home games, New England will have to adjust to its second cross-country trip of the young season. The Revs opened their season at L.A. with a 1-1 draw, but visit Vancouver on short rest.

In addition, goalie Matt Reis is sidelined with an adductor strain, leaving an important piece out of the Revolution defense that Thordarson hopes the right combination up front can expose.
