Renteria brace leads Crew past Whitecaps

May 1, 2011 - 2:01 AM Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - The Columbus Crew battled to a 2-1 win over the expansion Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Major League Soccer action at Crew Stadium on Saturday.

Edgar Renteria scored two second-half goals for the Crew, who extended their unbeaten run to six games, three of those being wins.

After the teams battled to a scoreless first half, Renteria opened the scoring in the 50th minute with a penalty-kick goal. Just nine minutes later he made it 3-0 with his third goal of the season.

Vancouver's 17-year-old rookie draft pick, Omar Salgado, scored his first MLS goal 20 minute from time top pull one back for the visitors, but that was as close as they could get.
