Revs, 'Quakes to square off at Buck Shaw

May 20, 2011 - 7:29 PM Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution travel to take on the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer action at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday.

The Revs are coming off a second straight shutout result, 1-0, over the expansion Vancouver Whitecaps FC this past weekend and are aiming to jump into the top half of the Eastern table.

The team has gone 222 minutes without allowing a goal.

"It's great. I mean, we're going to have to win games 1-0 if we want to be a great team," New England goalkeeper Matt Reis told the league's website. "There were times when we were really, really good. But at times toward the end, we made it a little difficult on ourselves."

While the revs are coming off a win, it was a sloppy win, and the team is hoping to clean things up on the road on Saturday.

"I don't know if we'll really have too much to build off on the performance," the Revs Chris Tierney said. "It wasn't the prettiest win and we kind of had to grind it out, but the three points were definitely crucial. It was a game we felt like was a must-win at this stage of the season. We'll take the three and move on."

San Jose is coming off a 3-0 win over Columbus, and will be looking for more of the same at home against another Eastern foe this weekend, especially considering it was the team's first home win this season.

"It's been coming for a while now," San Jose coach Frank Yallop said. "We have put some good performances together the past 3-4 games but we hadn't gotten the results. Columbus played well, but we scored three good goals."

Unlike the revs last result, San Jose is hoping theirs in a jumping off point this season.

"Our confidence just keeps building; we have confidence in our ability in our play," S.J. attacker Chris Wondolowski told the league's website. "I think we found our fight. Our tactical and technical ability is showing. It's all coming together and we're really happy with what we've done over the last couple of games. It was a good building block for us."
