San Jose hopes to add to FCD's struggles
May 9, 2014 - 8:09 PM Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - FC Dallas attempts to snap its three- game losing streak on Saturday when the club travels to Buck Shaw Stadium to face the San Jose Earthquakes.Dallas is eager to bring an end to its poor run of form, which has dropped the team six points back of Western Conference leaders Seattle, while San Jose is still searching for its second win of the campaign after a 0-0 draw with Colorado in midweek.
After starting the season with 13 of a possible 15 points, Dallas jumped to the top of the West, but has lost four of five games since that time.
Michel's first-half penalty kick gave Dallas a 1-0 lead against Seattle on Wednesday, only for the Sounders to score twice in the second half to claim the win.
Obafemi Martins leveled the contest in the 62nd minute, and he set up the winning goal two minutes from time with a cross that redirected into the net by Kenny Cooper.
Dallas also got some bad news on the injury front this week as it was announced that midfielder Mauro Diaz will miss the next 6-10 weeks after undergoing a knee operation.
Diaz has scored three goals and assisted on three more in eight games this season, and his absence will be a blow to FCD.
The team will also be without defender Kellyn Acosta for the next six weeks as he is battling a knee problem of his own.
San Jose had to feel a bit unlucky after Wednesday's draw as Colorado goalkeeper Clint Irwin made seven saves, including a few quality stops on Chris Wondolowski that denied the 'Quakes three points.
The match saw midfielder Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi return to the lineup for San Jose after a three-game absence, but the club lost fullback Andreas Gorlitz for the season as he will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.
With Gorlitz out for the season, Brandon Barklage stepped in to fill his spot, while the team also had to use Ty Harden in the center of its back line with Clarence Goodson missing through injury.
San Jose may be a bit short of options in defense, but in addition to Diaz, Dallas will be missing forward Je-Vaughn Watson due to suspension.
