Revs hope to halt slide against DCU

May 22, 2015 - 8:04 PM Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New England Revolution will try to halt a three-game winless streak on Saturday when the club entertains D.C. United at Gillette Stadium in a battle of the top two sides in the Eastern Conference.

Both sides may occupy lofty spots in the league table, but both will be looking to erase losses in their previous outings.

The Revs sustained a 4-2 defeat to Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday and are hoping to bounce back from that setback with a victory against United, which would move New England to the top of the conference.

Juan Agudelo's goal after 11 minutes put the Revs on top, but Sporting stormed back behind two goals and an assist from Krisztian Nemeth while Dom Dwyer and Benny Feilhaber each chipped in a goal of their own.

Sporting scored all four of their goals in the span of 17 minutes, leaving New England with no way back and Agudelo eager to put that result in the past.

"We just had a good talk - us players - and we've got to forget this game. We've got an important game Saturday and we'll just have to forget everything about this game."

One positive for New England heading into the match is the fact that the Revs are riding a 14-game home undefeated streak in league play, while the club's last loss in all competitions on home soil came July 30, 2014.

United will be aiming to snap that streak and return to winning ways after a 1-0 setback against the struggling Philadelphia Union that saw the club's eight-game unbeaten streak come to an end.

Ben Olsen's team was playing its third game in eight days against the Union, and after making all three of his substitutions, Olsen saw forward Luis Silva go down with an injury, leaving his side to play the final 10 minutes with 10 men.

Despite these conditions, his team nearly got over the line for a point, but Zach Pfeffer snatched the win for the Union with a stoppage-time goal.

"It wasn't the prettiest game but once again you're going...you have a midweek game and then 88 minutes in you're still 0-0," said United forward Chris Pontius. "We have to see that game out and it was a little unfortunate that Luis Silva went down at the end. We were a little bit stretched but we thought we could still come out of here with a point. We're disappointed in that sense. Long week, tired legs, you have to put that all aside and just figure out a way to get a point here."

United was held without a goal for the second time this season, and the club has yet to score more than two goals in any game. The potential absence of Silva in midfield certainly won't help, which will place more of the scoring burden on forwards Chris Rolfe and Jairo Arrieta.
