Too much brain, not enough gut: Arnold

Nov 1, 2017 - 1:34 AM Stop using your brain to score and start using your gut.

That's the instruction from Graham Arnold to his Sydney FC players as they prepare for their top-of-the-table A-League clash against Melbourne City at AAMI Park.

Notorious for their defensive frailties in previous seasons, City have conceded just one goal in the four rounds and are the only team with a perfect winning record.

But a bullish Arnold predicted his side will buck the trend on Friday night, provided they start doing instead of thinking.

"Our performances have been very strong attacking-wise, but there's been too much brain thinking around our finishing instead of gut feel," Arnold said on Wednesday.

"We know how strong our attack is and we know we will get that right on Friday night and we will execute.

"We will finish our chances. That will happen.

"We're in fantastic form. We've always enjoyed going to Melbourne as a group and we're looking forward to the game at AAMI.

"We're in great shape and we've analysed them well.

"We see some weaknesses and we will expose them."

Arnold tipped big things to come from Polish import Adrian Mierzejewski, who scored his maiden A-League goal, from the penalty spot, in last week's 2-0 win over Perth Glory.

It was the 30-year-old's return game after two weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

"He's in great shape and we expect him to get better and better as the season goes on," Arnold said.

"He can play in many positions on the frontline and we know he's got a lot left in him.

"He's still finding his feet, that's why he's coming off the bench -- apart from (the injury)."
