Injuries to test Glory's A-League depth

Dec 12, 2017 - 6:40 AM Perth Glory have received some good news on the injury front, with defender Alex Grant set to miss only one week with a hamstring injury.

Grant and Xavi Torres (groin) limped off in the second half of last week's 2-1 home loss to Newcastle, adding to Glory's extensive injury woes.

Torres is expected to miss at least two weeks with his injury, but Grant is only set to miss Saturday night's clash with Wellington at nib Stadium.

Scans revealed no major tear for Grant, and he'll be given a fitness test next week.

Star striker Andy Keogh appears unlikely to return this week after aggravating his groin injury at training last Friday.

Keogh has missed the past two games and the club has booked him in for more scans in a bid to determine whether a nerve-related back issue has been causing his groin flare-ups.

Defender Scott Neville is still about a fortnight away from returning as he deals with a toe injury that he has been carrying for months.

Neville hasn't played since injuring his groin in the 5-2 loss to Phoenix on November 12, but it is his ongoing toe issue that has held back his return.

The 28-year-old fractured his toe in the 1-0 FFA Cup loss to Heidelberg United on August 1.

Andreu (calf) and Marc Warren (ankle) are other players still sidelined.

In a rare dose of good news, striker Joel Chianese could return off the bench against Phoenix after recovering from a broken collarbone.

Diego Castro made a successful return off the bench from a calf injury last week, and could be in line for a starting role against Wellington.

Newcastle's extra-time winner last week saw Glory drop to eighth place on the ladder.

They are four points adrift of fourth spot and can ill afford to drop any points against the rock bottom Phoenix.
