Torres among injury concerns for Glory
Dec 21, 2017 - 4:32 PM Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe admits Andy Keogh's A-League return was a risk he had to take, but that he may have pushed his luck trying to reintroduce Xavier Torres alongside him.The pair were both deployed off the bench on Thursday after missing three weeks and one week respectively with groin injuries, Keogh scoring one and laying on the other in a 2-1 comeback defeat of Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium.
Lowe said Keogh's arrival to start the second half allowed the Glory's even share of possession to finally mean something as they pinched a vital win and move into fourth on the ladder.
Goalkeeper Liam Reddy was forced from the field after a second half collision, while Torres played out the game after appearing to re-injure his groin.
"He shouldn't have really been on the bench but we're so thin, we took a gamble and got away with Andy," Lowe said of the decision to play his striker.
"But I don't think we got away with Xavi (Torres), because I think he tweaked it again.
"We've lost Liam as well, I think he's got a broken nose, maybe a little bit of a cheek bone but he's all clear, no concussion."
The coach said Brisbane was unlucky not to go up 2-0 after Massimo Maccarone was wrongfully deemed offside in scoring what should have been his second goal.
But Lowe was not about to be drawn into another VAR-related debate.
"I've got a new year's resolution before the new year - I ain't talking about refs or VAR," he said.
"It's been done to death, it's boring.
"Let the lads out on the park make some mistakes and maybe if we keep our mouths shut the VAR won't be used."
The coach said Diego Castro had enjoyed his reunion with Keogh and has crossed his fingers for good news on the injury front.
"Back-to-back wins, eight away games out of the 12 ... we're in a good space and hopefully Xavi isn't that bad and we can kick on," Lowe said.
"We've got good characters, we're working so hard and we've got quality going forward - it's always a dangerous combination."
