Glory's Taggart out of Sydney FC clash

Dec 28, 2017 - 3:41 AM Perth Glory striker Adam Taggart has been ruled out for at least another week with a hamstring injury, while defender Scott Neville is battling a broken toe that might end his A-League season.

Taggart has missed the past seven rounds and won't be risked in Saturday night's clash with Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium.

Glory coach Kenny Lowe is hopeful the fringe Socceroos striker will return soon -- possibly even for next week's home clash with Adelaide United.

But the situation looks more grim for Neville.

The 28-year-old hasn't played since round six, when he was battling a groin injury.

But it is the broken toe suffered during an FFA Cup loss in August that is threatening to end his campaign early.

The toe has failed to heal properly and it's likely Neville will require surgery.

Neville wants to try to play out the season before going under the knife.

But if the pain proves too much to overcome, he'll be booked in for surgery soon.

"It's more down to him managing the pain now," Lowe said.

"It's healed to a certain extent but it's not fully healed. So we've got a choice to make.

"Either he battles on until the end of the year and has an op or, if it's too much, he has an op now.

"At the moment he wants to battle on and give it a go, which is fair play to the kid.

"He's back in training now and starting to load it up."

Glory are riding a wave of confidence after two-straight wins but history suggests they will receive a pummelling from Sydney this weekend.

The Sky Blues have won their past seven games against Perth in all competitions, scoring 22 goals and conceding just two in the process.

But Lowe says his players are full of belief that they can break that losing trend.

"They've been the toughest task for the past three years. They haven't lost many," Lowe said of the league leaders.

"But that means they're due a loss. That's the way I look at it.

"Everyone loses games eventually, so why not them?

"We're confident."
