Dupree helps Sky earn first victory over Sun

Jun 17, 2007 - 10:17 PM UNCASVILLE, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Candice Dupree had 28 points and eight rebounds as the Chicago Sky defeated the Connecticut Sun, 87-74, on Sunday for their first time in the team's short existence.

In its first season in the WNBA, Chicago finished with a lackluster 5-29 record in 2006, including three straight losses to Connecticut. But the Sky (6-5) have turned things around this year, going over .500 for the second time in franchise history.

Veteran Stacey Dales scored 17 points and Dominique Canty added 14 for Chicago, which shot 45 percent (30-of-67) from the field and scored 23 points off 19 turnovers.

Canty scored consecutive baskets as the Sky took the lead for good at 62-59 with 7:13 remaining in the fourth quarter. Chicago continued to pull away as Dupree had eight straight points, extending the lead to 75-67 at the 3:26 mark.

Chicago led 40-34 at halftime before Connecticut stormed back in the third quarter, holding a 21-13 edge in the period to take a two-point edge into the decisive quarter.

Asjha Jones had 22 points and a career-tying 12 rebounds and Lindsay Whalen added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Sun, who shot 45 percent (30-of-66).
