Beard lifts Mystics over Sun
Jun 27, 2007 - 1:17 AM UNCASVILLE, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Alana Beard scored 20 points to lift the Washington Mystics to a 91-75 victory over the slumping Connecticut Sun.Beard outscored the Sun, 11-2, in a span of just over two minutes in the third quarter to give Washington a commanding 61-45 lead.
The Mystics (4-10) got outstanding production from their bench as Tamara James scored 13 points and Nikki Blue added 12, including five in a 13-0 second-quarter spurt to give Washington the lead for good at 31-24.
Nikki Teasley also scored 12 for the Mystics, who shot 7-of-15 from 3-point range.
Katie Douglas had 19 points and Ericka DeSouza 16 for the Sun (5-9), which has dropped six of its last seven games.
Asjha Jones was also in double figures with 10 points for the Sun, who finished 27-of-73 (37 percent) from the field.
