Delle Donne leads Sky past Fever

Jun 6, 2015 - 3:41 AM Rosemont, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Elena Delle Donne scored 31 points to lead the reigning Eastern Conference champion Chicago Sky to a 95-72 win over the Indiana Fever in the season opener for both teams.

The Sky reached the finals last season despite Delle Donne battling Lyme Disease for much of the regular season and a back issue during the playoffs. They fell to the Mercury in the championship.

Courtney Vandersloot added 13 points and Jessica Breland had 13 rebounds for Chicago.

Marissa Coleman paced Indiana with 18 points and Natalie Achonwa scored 10 off the bench.

Coleman opened the game with a 3-pointer, but it was all Sky after that. They went ahead on a Vandersloot triple three minutes later and never surrendered the lead after that.

Chicago made 12-of-13 from the line and limited Indiana to 37.8 percent shooting in the first half to take a 51-38 lead into halftime. Delle Donne scored 17 points out of the break to end any thoughts of a comeback.

The Fever were without star Tamika Catchings, who is out with a right knee injury.
