Philyaw, Brigade hold off Avengers
May 27, 2007 - 4:05 AM KANSAS CITY (Ticker) -- Raymond Philyaw threw five touchdown passes and ran for another to lift the Kansas City Brigade to a 62-56 triumph over the Los Angeles Avengers on Saturday.Philyaw completed 18-of-27 passes for 224 yards. Charles Frederick had seven receptions for 88 yards and three scores for the Brigade (7-5), who took sole possession of fourth place in the American Conference.
Boo Williams hauled in two touchdown catches and Dawan Moss added two rushing scores for Kansas City, which pulled away in the first half after outscoring Los Angeles, 20-0, in the second quarter.
Sonny Cumbie threw two touchdown passes to Rob Turner in the final 32 seconds of the game, but the Avengers got no closer than the final score.
Cumbie completed 24-of-51 passes for 297 yards and six touchdowns with an interception. Turner had nine catches for 86 yards and three scores for Los Angeles (6-6), which converted just 1-of-7 on third down.
