Alexander, Kats rush past Brigade
Apr 22, 2007 - 5:38 AM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Dan Alexander's record-setting night provided the difference for the Nashville Kats.Alexander rushed for an Arena League-record six touchdowns to pace the Kats to a 49-40 victory over the Kansas City Brigade.
The sixth TD by Alexander, a one-yard plunge with 4:17 to play, capped off the scoring after the Brigade (4-3) had pulled within 42-40 on a 19-yard scoring pass from Raymond Philyaw to Jerel Myers with 11:07 left.
Alexander rushed for 59 yards on 19 carries, also setting a league record for most rushing attempts.
Myers caught 10 passes for 123 yards, including TD receptions of five, three, seven and 19 yards.
Philyaw twice connected with Myers on scoring passes bridging halftime that erased a 14-point deficit and tied it at 28-28 with 11:54 left in the third quarter.
Alexander ripped off an 18-yard touchdown run on the subsequent possession and the Kats (4-4) never trailed thereafter.
Philyaw finished 23-of-31 for 256 yards, five TD passes and zero interceptions. Kats quarterback Jeff Smoker was 17-of-26 for 186 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
