Desparados win shootout over Voodoo

Jun 10, 2007 - 7:33 AM DALLAS (Ticker) -- Clint Dolezel threw for 386 yards and 11 touchdowns as the Dallas Desparados notched an 80-79 victory over the New Orleans Voodoo.

The two teams matched each other touchdown for touchdown through a furious first three quarters, entering the final quarter tied, 52-52. The Voodoo looked like the winners when their final drive resulted in a touchdown with no time left on the clock, but their two-point conversion attempt failed.

With the win, the Desparados ran their league-best record to 13-1, a game better than the Georgia Force.

Each team scored twice in the games final minute, but a botched point-after-touchdown attempt by Dallas kicker Todd Sievers left the door open for New Orleans to take a 73-72 lead nine seconds later, with 47 seconds remaining in the game.

The Desparados took the lead back 17 seconds later on Dolezel's final touchdown pass of the game and pushed the lead to 80-73 when their two-point conversion was successful.

The star of the game for Dallas was wide receiver Will Pettis, who finished the game with 11 receptions for 132 yards, two touchdowns and a two-point conversion on offense. On the other side of the ball, Pettis had four stops on defense, and seven kickoff returns for 145 yards on special teams.

New Orleans quarterback Steve Bellisari connected on 33-of-46 passes for 418 yards and nine touchdowns.
