Gallardo, Rangers blank Blue Jays

Jun 27, 2015 - 11:58 PM Toronto, ON ( - Yovani Gallardo fired 8 1/3 scoreless innings and the Texas Rangers ended a six-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.

Gallardo (7-6) extended his scoreless streak to a career-best 23 1/3 innings and allowed just three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

"He was masterful today," said Rangers manager Jeff Banister.

Rougned Odor hit a solo home run and finished with two RBI, while Mitch Moreland and Robinson Chirinos also homered for the Rangers, who dropped the opener of their three-game set with Toronto 12-2 on Friday.

Matt Boyd (0-1) gave up all four runs on nine hits and struck out seven without walking a batter over 6 2/3 frames in his major league debut for the Blue Jays.

"I thought he did a great job," Toronto manager John Gibbons said of Boyd. "I think he's a confident guy. We saw something today, that's for sure."

The Rangers opened the scoring in the second. Elvis Andrus and Joey Gallo placed runners on the corners with one-out singles and Odor plated Andrus with a sacrifice fly to left.

Moreland added to the lead in the fourth with his 10th homer of the season, a solo shot to right-center, and Chirinos followed suit to start the fifth for a 3-0 score.

Meanwhile, Gallardo cruised through the first seven innings, surrendering just one hit and one walk. After he allowed a one-out single to Josh Donaldson in the ninth, Shawn Tolleson replaced him and induced a game-ending double play off the bat of Jose Bautista.

Odor hit a leadoff blast to right in the seventh to account for the final score.

Game Notes

Gallo made his first start in center field after playing 15 games at third base and seven in left field to begin his career ... Texas designated hitter Prince Fielder went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to six games, while Toronto's Kevin Pillar has hit safely in 11 games ... Boyd was the first Blue Jays starter to make his debut as a starter since Sean Nolin on May 24, 2013 vs. Baltimore.
