Gallardo, Rangers blank Blue Jays

Jun 27, 2015 - 11:58 PM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Yovani Gallardo fired 8 1/3 scoreless innings and the Texas Rangers ended a six-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.

Gallardo (7-6) extended his scoreless streak to a career-best 23 1/3 innings and allowed just three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

"He was masterful today," said Rangers manager Jeff Banister.

Rougned Odor hit a solo home run and finished with two RBI, while Mitch Moreland and Robinson Chirinos also homered for the Rangers, who dropped the opener of their three-game set with Toronto 12-2 on Friday.

Matt Boyd (0-1) gave up all four runs on nine hits and struck out seven without walking a batter over 6 2/3 frames in his major league debut for the Blue Jays.

"I thought he did a great job," Toronto manager John Gibbons said of Boyd. "I think he's a confident guy. We saw something today, that's for sure."

The Rangers opened the scoring in the second. Elvis Andrus and Joey Gallo placed runners on the corners with one-out singles and Odor plated Andrus with a sacrifice fly to left.

Moreland added to the lead in the fourth with his 10th homer of the season, a solo shot to right-center, and Chirinos followed suit to start the fifth for a 3-0 score.

Meanwhile, Gallardo cruised through the first seven innings, surrendering just one hit and one walk. After he allowed a one-out single to Josh Donaldson in the ninth, Shawn Tolleson replaced him and induced a game-ending double play off the bat of Jose Bautista.

Odor hit a leadoff blast to right in the seventh to account for the final score.
