Tribe tries to get back on track in Anaheim

Apr 13, 2011 - 2:38 PM (Sports Network) - With their eight-game winning streak a thing of the past, the Cleveland Indians will try to avoid consecutive losses for the first time since the start of the season as they conclude their three-game series with the hosting Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The Indians yielded 23 runs in losing their first two games of the season on April 1-2, but ripped off eight straight victories for their longest winning streak since winning 10 in a row from Aug. 17-27, 2008. That 8-2 start was the club's best since an 11-1 beginning in 2002, but Cleveland came crashing back down to earth with last night's 2-0 setback.

The Indians took the opener on Monday with a 4-0 win, getting homers from Asdrubal Cabrera and Matt LaPorta, but the Angels turned the tables last night. Dan Haren threw a one-hit shutout and Peter Bourjos and Mark Trumbo hit solo homers in a 2-0 win.

Trumbo's shot was the first of his career, while Haren struck out eight and walked two over 125 pitches. His start was pushed back a day after a rare relief outing on Saturday.

"I felt really good warming up in the pen," Haren said after his third career shutout and 12th complete game. "I was able to mix up my pitches and keep the ball down. I went at them all night."

The Angels have won five of seven.

Fausto Carmona took the loss for Cleveland by allowing both runs on four hits in 7 2/3 innings. Shin-Soo Choo recorded the only Indians hit, a single in the fourth inning.

"Well pitched ball game on both sides," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "Haren was on his game, (Carmona) did his job and was very good, unfortunately Haren was too good."

Hoping to get Cleveland back on track tonight will be Carlos Carrasco, who is coming off his first win of the season and third of his career on Friday in Seattle. The right-hander held the Mariners to a run on four hits over six innings of a 12-3 win, one start after getting ripped for seven runs over 6 2/3 innings in a loss on April 2.

The right-handed Carrasco has faced the Angels just once before, getting a no- decision on Sept. 6 with six innings of two-run ball at Angels Stadium.

The Angels go with 28-year-old Ervin Santana, who pitched decent last time out, but took the loss after not factoring into the decision of his first start of the season.

Versus Toronto on Friday, the righty yielded three runs over eight innings with seven strikeouts in a 3-2 setback.

Santana has never beaten the Indians, going 0-6 with a 5.14 earned run average in nine starts.

Cleveland won the 2010 season series by a slim 5-4 margin, with the clubs splitting six games at Angels Stadium.
