Kershaw heads to the hill to face Cincinnati
Jun 4, 2011 - 2:43 PM (Sports Network) - Coming off his second career shutout and holding a personal four-decision winning streak, Clayton Kershaw heads to the mound this afternoon for the Dodgers against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.Kershaw was spectacular against the Marlins on Sunday, tossing a two-hitter and fanning 10 batters while issuing just one walk in an 8-0 rout. The left- hander is 4-0 over his past six starts and hasn's lost since April 26 at Florida.
For his carer, Kershaw has compiled a 1-1 mark with a 2.53 ERA in three starts against the Reds.
Johnny Cueto hopes he can finally solve the Dodgers when he takes the mound for Cincinnati. The righty has lost all three of his career starts vs. Los Angeles and has a 5.40 ERA against the Dodgers.
Not only has Cueto struggled when facing the Dodgers, but he's dropped his last two decisions overall, this despite not allowing more than three runs in any of his five appearances this season.
Last night, Scott Rolen's single in the fifth inning brought around two runs as the Reds won, 2-1. Rolen finished 2-for-4 while Drew Stubbs also had a pair of hits in the win, the Reds' third in four games.
Bronson Arroyo (4-5) was solid in six innings to get his first win in his last seven starts. He allowed just five hits and one run with two strikeouts.
James Loney drove in the lone run for the Dodgers, who have dropped two straight after reeling off consecutive three wins.
"We're going to have to consistently find ways to score," Dodgers manger Don Mattingly said. "We have to be able to put some runs to be able to compete."
Los Angeles starter Hiroki Kuroda (5-6) suffered the loss, his first career setback against the Reds. He gave up two runs on six hits and four walks over six innings.
Dodgers shortstop Rafeal Furcal strained his left side on a throw to third in the second inning and left the game. He is listed as day-to-day.
Cincinnati won five of its nine meetings with the Dodgers last season.
