Yankees turn to Nova in finale with Rockies

Jun 26, 2011 - 2:38 PM (Sports Network) - A couple weeks ago Ivan Nova was walking a tight rope in terms of remaining in the starting rotation, but the 24-year-old has turned things around and will try to continue his winning ways when he takes the hill for the New York Yankees in the finale of a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Yankee Stadium.

After going five starts with just one win the young hurler has now found the win column in three straight outings. The last time Nova was on the hill he tossed eight strong innings in a victory over Cincinnati.

In the win, the right-hander allowed just one run on four hits and struck out seven batters.

Nova has made eight starts at home this season and even though he has a 4-2 ledger, his ERA is a tad high at 4.76.

Colorado will turn to Juan Nicasio, who is making his sixth start of the season. Since being called-up the young hurler has been a tad inconsistent, and even though he is 2-1, his ERA stands at 4.71.

The last time he was on the hill he was rocked by the Indians, who scored six runs against the right-hander.

Nicasio did rack up six strikeouts and avoided a loss because the offense was able to keep pace with Cleveland's scoring prowess.

Yesterday, Alex Rodriguez drove in three runs, CC Sabathia became the first 10-game winner in the majors and the Yankees took an 8-3 win over the Rockies.

Sabathia (10-4) gave up just one run on seven hits with a walk and nine strikeouts over eight innings.

"Guys like to play behind guys who work quick and CC does that," said New York manager Joe Girardi. "Everything was working for him today and his stuff was as good as I've seen it all year."

Mark Teixeira hit a two-run home run, Jorge Posada went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Curtis Granderson went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Yankees, who had dropped their previous two.

Ty Wigginton hit a two-run home run while Seth Smith drove in the other run for the Rockies, who have dropped two of their last three.

Aaron Cook (0-3) was tagged for six runs -- five earned -- on 12 hits over 5 2/3 innings to remain winless in four starts this season.

"It's really frustrating cause I've been feeling really good out there," said Cook. "I've worked hard to put myself in a good spot and I'm just not getting the results right now. I just need to go back to the drawing board and figure out what I need to do to fix this."

The Rockies were swept in their last visit to the old Yankee Stadium back in 2004, but returned the favor in 2007 when they took all three games from the Yanks at Coors Field.
