Myers tries to get on track in Milwaukee

Jul 31, 2011 - 2:49 PM (Sports Network) - Brett Myers shoots for his first win in more than a month this afternoon when the Houston Astros try to avoid a sweep in their three- game series with the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

Myers' latest setback came on Tuesday in St. Louis, as the Cardinals reached him for three runs and 11 hits in eight innings, dropping him to 3-11 on the year to go along with a 4.66 earned run average.

Myers has lost his last five decisions and hasn't won since beating the Dodgers back on June 17. However, he hasn't been awful in that time and has allowed more than three runs just twice in his last seven starts.

Myers lost to Milwaukee the last time he faced it and is 5-4 lifetime against the Brewers with a 3.70 ERA in 14 games (10 starts).

Milwaukee, meanwhile, will counter with lefty Chris Narveson, who has won three of his last four decisions. Narveson got the best of the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, as he held them to a pair of runs and eight hits over five innings to run his record to 7-6, while lowering his ERA to 4.41.

Narveson is 0-2 in six games (five starts) against the Astros with a 4.00 ERA.

Milwaukee won its fifth straight game on Saturday, as Yovani Gallardo tossed seven innings of four-hit ball to pace the Brewers to a 6-2 victory.

Gallardo (12-7) gave up one unearned run, struck out seven, did not issue a walk and chipped in offensively with a double and a run scored.

"I was able to get ahead. We're supposed to beat teams like this and this is the way we're supposed to play everyday," Gallardo said. "Every game is important from now on out."

Kameron Loe tossed a scoreless ninth to seal the win.

Corey Hart went 4-for-5 with a leadoff homer in the first inning and Jonathan Lucroy finished 3-for-4 with a two-run double for the NL Central leaders, who have won six of their last eight. Prince Fielder belted a homer 475 feet as part of a 3-for-4 performance.

J.D. Martinez ripped an RBI double in his first major league at-bat, a pinch- hit situation in the eighth inning for Houston. Angel Sanchez collected an RBI single for the Astros, who have lost seven of their last nine games.

J.A. Happ (4-13) gave up five runs -- two earned -- on 10 hits over five frames to absorb the loss.

The Brewers have won five of eight from the Astros this year, taking four of five at home so far.
