Slumping Mets seek series win over Marlins

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) - The slumping New York Mets aim to take the rubber game of a three-game series with the Florida Marlins on Wednesday.

Johan Santana threw seven outstanding innings Tuesday and Ramon Castro drove in a pair of runs as the Mets notched just their second win in the last nine games, a 5-3 triumph.

The win took a little pressure off manager Willie Randolph, who is still under a watchful eye since ownership did not guarantee he will remain the manager for the rest of the season.

New York looks to win two straight for the first time in more than a week behind Oliver Perez (4-3, 4.53 ERA). The lefthander allowed four runs and six hits in five innings, but did not factor into the decision in a 6-5 loss to Colorado on Friday.

The Marlins will counter with Scott Olsen (4-2, 3.38), who had been having a stellar season before hitting a bump in the road. The lefthander was rocked for seven runs - five earned - and eight hits in a season-low 3 1/3 innings of a 8-2 loss to San Francisco on Friday.
