Marlins' Ross looks to continue power surge

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Cody Ross is on a Mark McGwire-like power surge.

Ross looks to continue his impressive run when the Florida Marlins aim to take the rubber game of a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.

Ross smashed a two-run homer in support of 6 2/3 solid innings from Ricky Nolasco as the Marlins snapped the Phillies' five-game winning streak with a 7-3 victory on Saturday.

Nine of Ross' last 10 hits had been home runs before he singled in the ninth inning. The only time the majors has seen such an amazing stretch was when the former home run king McGwire recorded home runs on 11 straight hits in 2001.

Ross will try and keep up his red-hot hitting against 45-year-old Jamie Moyer (5-3, 4.45 ERA), who has won three straight starts and allowed just seven runs in his last 19 2/3 innings. Moyer is 7-0 with a 3.05 ERA in seven career starts vs. Florida.

The Marlins counter with Andrew Miller (4-4, 5.53). Miller was touched for four runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings of a 5-3 loss to New York on Tuesday. The 23-year-old lefthander went 3-2 with a 2.43 ERA in May after a dismal first month of the season.
