Santana, red-hot Angels look to sweep the Nationals
Jun 25, 2008 - 12:57 PM LA ANGELS (48-30) at WASHINGTON (30-49), 7:10 pm EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Everything is running smoothly for Ervin Santana and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Santana and the Angels aim for their sixth straight win when they take on the Washington Nationals in interleague play Wednesday.
Anaheim cruised past Washington, 8-3, on Tuesday for its second five-game winning streak of 2008. Vladimir Guerrero extended his hitting streak to 15 games and Mike Napoli hit a two-run homer for the visitors, who have also won 10 of their last 11 on the road.
The Angels hand the ball to Santana (9-3, 3.17 ERA), who looks to join teammate John Lackey and three other American League hurlers in reaching a double-digit win total.
The righthander, who has won three of his last four decisions, gave up a run and two hits while striking out nine batters in a 7-1 win vs. Philadelphia last Friday.
Washington, which has lost seven of eight, sends Tim Redding (6-3, 4.12) to the mound in hopes he can collect his first win in more than a month.
The righthander, who won three of his first four outings this season, hasn't recorded a decision since beating Philadelphia, 4-0, on May 19. Since then, Redding has had six starts, but has failed to pitch more than six innings.
The Nationals are 5-9 in interleague play while the Angels are 9-5.
