Randolph, Grizzlies cruise past Jazz
Mar 22, 2011 - 6:25 AM Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Zach Randolph led a balanced attack, finishing with 19 points and 13 rebounds, as the Memphis Grizzlies handled the Utah Jazz, 103-85, at FedEx Forum.Darrell Arthur netted 14 points off the bench and Mike Conley turned in a double-double, ending with 11 points and 11 assists for Memphis, which had seven players score in double figures.
The Grizzlies have won two straight and three of their last four, and split the season series versus Utah, 2-2. Marc Gasol and O.J. Mayo also had 11 points apiece in the victory.
"We had very good ball movement," said Memphis head coach Lionel Hollins. "We turned them over a few times and got out and ran. They're not a very good transition defensive team, and we knew we could run on them coming into the game."
Paul Millsap had a team-high 15 points to go with six boards, while Al Jefferson poured in 12 points for the Jazz, who have dropped four of their last six. Utah has also lost four in a row on the road.
Memphis scored the last six points of the opening quarter and had a 29-21 edge after 12 minutes of play.
The Grizzlies continued to dictate the pace in the second as Arthur set the tone by scoring six during an 11-2 run to put the hosts ahead by 15, 42-27, with 7:21 before the break.
Mayo's three-pointer just beat the buzzer to give Memphis a 54-42 edge heading into the intermission.
Andrei Kirilenko's two free throws got the Jazz as close as nine 2 1/2 minutes into the third, but the Grizzlies built their lead up to 17 after an alley oop dunk by Sam Young made it a 72-55 game with 5:14 left in the third and they were ahead by 15 after three.
Gordon Hayward made a three-pointer to cap a run of seven straight by Utah at the start of the fourth that cut its deficit to eight.
However, the Grizzlies responded with an 15-3 burst to go ahead 95-75 following Conley's fast-break layup with 6 1/2 minutes to play and they held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
