Jazz aim to continue dominance over Clips in Salt Lake City

Nov 6, 2010 - 2:45 PM (Sports Network) - Don't expect the struggling Los Angeles Clippers to get on track tonight when they resume a four-game road trip against the Utah Jazz.

EnergySolutions Arena has traditionally been a house of horrors for the Clippers and Utah will be shooting for its 15th straight win over LA in Salt Lake City.

In fact, the Clippers have been historically bad in Utah. The Jazz are a gaudy 40-1 at home against the Clips since the 1989-90 season began, outscoring LA by an average of nearly 14 points per game. The Clippers lone win over the Jazz in Salt Lake City over that 20-year span was a 96-89 triumph on Jan. 22, 2003.

The Clips opened their current trip in losing fashion on Friday when Carmelo Anthony netted 30 points and had six assists to pace the Denver Nuggets over Los Angeles, 111-104.

Blake Griffin continued to shine in his first season, logging 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Clippers, who were coming off their first win, a surprising 107-92 win over Oklahoma City on Wednesday but are 0-3 on the road. Eric Gordon and Craig Smith scored 21 and 18 points, respectively, for LA, which shot just 2-for-15 from three-point range

Rookie Eric Bledsoe scored 12 points and dished out 13 assists in place of Baron Davis, who missed his third straight game with a cyst behind his left knee. Davis' status for tonight's game is unknown.

"We came out (in the third quarter) and took a couple quick shots. We didn't do a good job on our weakside defense," said Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro. "We had a couple turnovers."

The Clips will finish their trek with visits to New Orleans and San Antonio.

Utah, meanwhile, stumbled in Oakland last night when Monta Ellis recorded 23 points and a career-high seven steals, as the Golden State Warriors won a rare low-scoring affair by beating the Jazz, 85-78.

Golden State, typically a team that breaks 100 points in every game, won without scoring 90 points for the first time since April 15, 2006.

Deron Williams scored 23 to lead the Jazz, who had won their previous two games. Al Jefferson had 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Paul Millsap had 12 and 11 in defeat.

"They killed us on the offensive boards. We had 21 turnovers. It's awfully tough to win on the road when you have those things happen," said Utah head coach Jerry Sloan. "You have to give them credit -- they came in and wanted the game."

Utah has won seven of eight overall the Clippers overall.
