Nets, Sixers square off in south Philly
Nov 27, 2010 - 3:50 PM (Sports Network) - Hosting the New Jersey Nets tonight may be what the Philadelphia 76ers need to break out of their slump. The Sixers have dropped three in a row and will take on the Nets at Wells Fargo Center.Philadelphia took all four meetings from their Atlantic Division rivals a season ago and has won six of the last 10 encounters with New Jersey, which has dropped two straight and six of its last nine trips to south Philly.
The 76ers are coming off Friday's 99-90 loss at Miami, as reserve Jodie Meeks provided a spark off the bench with 21 points and Andre Iguodala added 20 points, nine boards and five assists for Philadelphia, losers in eight of its last nine contests.
"We have seen Jodie get on those streaks, and he gave us a chance tonight," Sixers head coach Doug Collins said.
Collins' squad will also host Portland on the short homestand.
New Jersey hopes to put the brakes on a four-game road losing streak tonight and suffered an 89-83 loss in Boston on Wednesday.
Devin Harris scored 20 points to pace the Nets, who blew a 10-point lead and lost for the fourth time in five overall contests. The Nets also failed to overcome a season-high 25 points and 11 boards from Celtics veteran center Shaquille O'Neal.
"Boy he got it going especially in that second half," Nets coach Avery Johnson said of Shaq. "We were beating them at the first half and then they turned it around in the second half. He has always been a tough cover. More than anything he got them in the bonus quicker in the second half which put pressure on our defense."
Anthony Morrow and Brook Lopez scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, for the Nets, who are 2-6 as the visitor this season. Nets forward Troy Murphy (foot) is expected to miss tonight's game.
