Knicks take road winning streak to Detroit

Nov 28, 2010 - 3:58 PM (Sports Network) - The New York Knicks shoot for their fifth straight road win Sunday afternoon against the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

New York, which is 6-4 as the visitor this season and hasn't won five in a row on the road since the 2000-2001 campaign, had a season-high five-game winning streak come to an end with Saturday's 99-90 loss to the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden. Hawks guard Jamal Crawford led six players in double figures with 21 points off the bench.

Amare Stoudemire posted 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Knicks, who were in search of their first six-game win streak since January, 2006. Raymond Felton had 18 points, while Landry Fields provided 15 points and 11 rebounds.

"We had no energy from the start. Playing the early games, it sometimes happens that way," Stoudemire said. "We can't make any excuses. We have to be ready for these early games, and we weren't."

Wilson Chandler chipped in 15 points in a losing cause. Felton is averaging 17.8 points per game after averaging 14.2 points last season with Charlotte.

Detroit will try for its third straight win at home and put the brakes on a quick two-game slide with Friday's 103-89 victory over Milwaukee in the Motor City. Rodney Stuckey scored a team-high 18 points for the Pistons, who shot a season-best 56.2 percent from the floor and posted a season-high 28 assists.

"We passed the ball pretty well and we have to continue to do that," said Stuckey, who is averaging a team-best 16.4 points and 5.4 assists per game. "I think if we do that every night we'll be alright. We just have to focus on defense now."

Richard Hamilton and Charlie Villanueva both scored 15 points, while Tayshaun Prince had 14 points and seven boards in a winning effort. With 15 more points Hamilton will become the sixth player in team history to score 11,000 points.

The Pistons are 4-3 at The Palace this season and hope to have a healthy Tracy McGrady today. The oft-injured forward is listed as probable versus New York -- his former team.

Detroit's bench is averaging 40.6 points per game -- good enough for third in the NBA this season -- and its 13.25 turnovers per game ranks second for the fewest in the league.

New York took three of four meetings with Detroit a season ago and has won six of the past nine games in the series. The Knicks, however, have dropped 12 of their last 15 visits to Motown.
