Boykins, Bucks take down Lakers

Dec 22, 2010 - 6:21 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Earl Boykins poured in a season-high 22 points off the bench, as the Milwaukee Bucks took down the Los Angeles Lakers, 98-79.

John Salmons added 20 points and six assists for the Bucks, who snapped a three-game skid. Ersan Ilyasova donated 17 points and 11 rebounds for Milwaukee, which got 15 points and eight boards from Andrew Bogut.

"Yesterday, I didn't shoot well," Boykins said. "My legs were stronger today and I got into a rhythm. Last night, we were embarrassed. We came out with energy tonight."

Kobe Bryant finished with 21 points for the Lakers, who saw a five-game winning streak come to an end. Pau Gasol tallied 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Lamar Odom had 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in defeat.

The Bucks held a 25-22 edge after 12 minutes of action, and took a 50-46 lead into the locker room.

Things remained tight in the third quarter, but Salmons made two free throws and a jumper to give Milwaukee a 72-66 margin heading to the fourth.

Gasol had the Lakers within five, 77-72, with under eight minutes to play, but the Bucks put the game away from there.

Boykins started an 8-0 run with a three-pointer and Bogut capped the flurry with a layup to make it 85-72 with 4 1/2 minutes to go.

With the score 89-77 moments later, Milwaukee ripped off nine straight points. Ilyasova made a pair of free throws to give the Bucks a 98-77 lead with 1 1/2 minutes remaining.

"I told them I don't think they could've played any worse," Lakers head coach Phil Jackson said. "We stopped moving the ball. Their defense was good. Boykins played a great game."
